Keep Up to Date on the South Bluewater Waste Water Collection System

BSRA recommends that affected residents consult Bluewater's Frequently Asked Questions (updated March 24, 2011). And the April 27 meeting presentation.

Bluewater's Water Rates Increased July 1

Shoreline rates will increase from 14% (average metered) to 18% (unmetered) on July 1, 2011.

Rates will increase again in 2012 and 2013.

2009 Water Quality Report

There is a lot going on but nothing is happening” (nor will it in the immediate future).

The Bluewater Shoreline Residents’ Association (BSRA) and its member associations have been working on solutions to the surface water quality issue in Bluewater and Huron County since 1996, over 13 years. Annually BSRA has reported on activities and outcomes. Occasionally BSRA has produced a more in-depth report, usually in response to significant findings or events. The last of these in-depth reports was in 2006, the year of a major manure spill in Bluewater. In view of a number of events that took place in 2009, BSRA is presenting this expanded water quality report. BSRA now believes that sufficient data has accumulated to allow us to draw conclusions about factors that prevent the development of actions plans to address this issue. Report>>>>

Local Taxation

BSRA presented its views to Bluewater Council November 16, 2009 to a packed house of shoreline residents. An attentive council supported further review by a vote of 9 of 10.

Members Choose Important Issues

Determining the issues that are most important to BSRA members was the focus of BSRA’s General and Annual Meetings in 2008.  Clearly, property assessment and taxes are the dominant concerns for our shoreline residents and our members want BSRA:

  • to increase the shoreline voting rate in municipal elections above the current 40% participation rate, and

  • to press the provincial government to change the assessment system

ATVs on Bluewater Property

As the Bluewater Municipal Council develops a policy to control and regulate ATV’s on municipal property, the Council should consider not only the issue of allowing ATV’s to travel on municipal roads but also the issue of allowing ATV’s to travel on municipal property and the beaches in Bluewater.

RECOMMENDATION:  that the Municipality of Bluewater adopt a By-Law that prohibits the use of ATV’s on its municipal properties and on the beaches in Bluewater. Click here for the presentation.
