There are 3 firms that service the BSRA area. They all specialize in cleaning septic and holding tanks, do baffle inspections and make repairs.

 Grand Bend Sanitation

Grand Bend

(Andy)  238-2291

 S. J. Shanahan Sanitation

Bayfield

(Mark)  233-7448

H T Dale Septic Tank Service

Seaforth

(Harvey)  527-0284

These firms have been recommended by satisfied lakeshore residents.

You are reminded that your tanks should be cleaned every 3 – 5 years depending upon use. You certainly don’t want the significant expense of replacing a septic bed because the tank was full plugging the beds.

There are many reported cases of tanks that needed emergency pumping because the owner didn’t have the septic tank pumped regularly and guests couldn’t flush.

It is recommended that you give several days lead time, have the area dug to the lid opening and be present. A mid-week day is best.

If someone in your association can co-ordinate 2-3 neighbours getting their septic tanks pumped at the same time, ASK for a discount. It saves them time and some expense by doing several at the same time.

We like feed-back; preferably good but also bad, so please let us know ~> contact us

Huron County Septic Inspection

The County of Huron offers the free-of-charge Septic Re-Inspection program to Huron County residents with sewage systems greater than 10 years old. Following participation in the program, homeowners will have an increased awareness of the location and condition of their system. For more information see the county's Newsletter. For a few months in 2007 a grant of up to $75 was available for pump-out associated with re-inspection.

Additives: New York State statement with support

Chemicals and other additives promoted to keep a septic system "healthy" or "free-flowing" or "nourished" are generally not required nor recommended by any known expert sources.

The Rideau Resident's web site says:

"The problem with these additives is that they work as advertised. They break the sludge down so that it can exit the outlet of your septic tank and flow into your leaching bed. This decreases the life of the leaching bed. Let your sludge settle in the tank and pump it out every 3 - 5 years. You will maximize the life of your leaching bed if you only let clear effluent flow into it."
